Colerne Church

The Friends are a charity that raises money to help maintain the fabric of the church and churchyard of St John the Baptist, Colerne, so that they can be enjoyed by all who live in the village or come to visit.

Parish churches get no financial support for repairs from either the Church of England or the Government. Money raised by the Friends helps to sustain a building that generations of Colerne people have created and cared for over more than 800 years.

We raise our money through a variety of means; donations and membership of the Friends of Colerne Church, plus organised events throughout the year – our village May Fair as well as the Bonfire and Firework display being just two of our regular events.

Repairs, replacements and improvements are essential to ensure that the Church will always be worthy of its place at the centre of village life, to enable its availability for weddings, funerals, baptisms and other events for current and future villagers. It is for this purpose that the Friends of Colerne Church was founded in 1976 and continues to guarantee one of the most important parts of our village heritage.

The Friends of Colerne Church have been able to assist in the renovation of the roof of the church, installation of a new floor, and aid the re-hanging of the bells in the tower. We have also been able to grant money towards a replacement organ as well as many other smaller renovations.
